ADAPT Software Development

As a complement to the Along Track Reef Imaging System (ATRIS), we have developed an open-source custom software package known as the ATRIS Data Analysis and Processing Tool (ADAPT). While the current software has worked well for older datasets, it has encountered a number of difficulties as the ATRIS system has evolved. Further, the system is strongly tied to the Linux platform, which creates difficulties for users of other operating systems.

To address these problems, we have begun an extensive rewrite of the software. While the original version was written in Yorick and Tcl, the new version is being developed in Python to leverage the many science-oriented packages available to that language. This new version of the software is being developed to be as cross-platform as possible, to ensure compatibility on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

While most of the existing features will initially remain unchanged, moving to Python will allow us to more easily implement changes and customizations much more easily as the ATRIS system evolves and as users' needs change due to its object-oriented approach.
